The question in computing has become, “Does computer portability really matter or is it more important to have a powerful workhorse computer that allows you to fit all your software and save as many projects as possible on your computing device?” Another point here may be whether the smaller sizes are more worthwhile or if the light-weight portability is the focal matter. I think the accessibility of different types of portable computers today lets us genuinely personalize our business machines into something that works for us all and doesn’t always have to be typical for the world.
The release of the new macbookair by Apple has really given us a choice with the size and what kind of computer we take around with us everyday. At less than 3 pounds and less than an inch thick, we don’t have to get a workout every time we travel. It has a 13 inch flat panel and a full-size keyboard. Who wouldn’t be interested? This is the very feature I have been seeking.
When I first previewed the advertisement for the MacBook Air with a slim, easy to carry computer coming out of that envelope, I was simply in awe. Now, that’s what I’ve been hunting for. Now it doesn’t have to be a workout to take my laptop with me anymore! No extra bag that can weigh nearly as much as the laptop, no more heavy lifting, no longer taking up all that extra room! What a marvel!
The age old question of whether size is relevant is in front of us now and my answer, when it comes to a miniature portable notebook computer is a booming, “yes, Yes, YES!” Size does matter as does weight. For me and my mobile computer smaller is as good as it gets.
