Richest and Best

The Richest and Best of Everything

So You Wish to Become a Director?

Therefore you want to be a director? Does not everybody. It is probably the thought of being able to manage things and having the power to do so. Think about those individuals following your every command. Or maybe You have GOT Anything TO Say. Or maybe not. You do not just desire a career, you also want power and glory. Nevertheless, the huge query is, can you picture scenarios in your brain? If not, do not think about being a Movie Director, or a Cinematographer.

Directors and Cinematographers can string pictures together in their head, like a Composer can “hear” music and then jot it down. Now some music artists tinker about on an instrument until they work out a tune: this is not being a real musician. The real musicians don’t play with the tunes first instead they hear it in their heads, jot it down, and then play it. Most of us are just hanging about and there is no denying that it is fun to do. For several people, directing is similar to a vocation or a calling like that of being a Priest or a Medical doctor. The job is not really the same with that of a Priest or a Physician but rather the commitment it needs because for one to become a flourishing Film Director he or she has to go through hell, literally. The work description of these film directors do not center solely on visualizing scenes in their heads, but it also entails dealing with demanding and very varied group of actors and actresses. Occasionally somebody like Karasawa or Hitchcock show up. Individuals like them are so brilliant that they clearly don’t live in the same world as us mere mortals. How to protect and conserve these people known as the Brilliant Ones, well it is up to us. In the Good Old Days, the Outstanding Ones were adored by community: Philosophers, Writers, Composers, and Artists. Nowadays Film Directors of all kinds acquire the treatment, but most of them are not The Outstanding Ones, but are just Ordinary Mortals trying to get in the limelight and make a decent movie.

The thing to remember if you aim to become a film director is that it is not necessary to behave badly (unless you’re a Genius, in which case you can’t help it.) And also that the one person on the film set who does not have to know anything technically is the director. He or She can have their minds completely submerged in the Script and the Actors and that’s all right by me. This because it is our responsibility as the crew to impart all the necessary technical knowledge. The DP, Operator (maybe the same person) and the Script Supervisor can work out how to shoot the film with the director. Directors who state everything are really dull to work with – especially when they are nasty. Individuals can forgive them if they are part of those Brilliant Ones, but if they are not people find it hard to forgive them.
